This took me... way longer to finish than anticipated. I have a few more parts already written, but out of order. It's been a while since I've tried uploading things in actual order. I promise I won't abandon the series, though sometimes it might take time to get the parts out. Anyway, choosing a title took me way too long. Idk.
It was rare for Angel to get a minute to himself while at Vee Tower, but his makeup had already been fixed from the photoshoot that had just finished, and the set for his next video was still being arranged, so he had a few short minutes to take a breather.
Sat in front of an open window, he took a drag of the cigarette between his fingers.
His eyes were drawn from the trail of smoke slowly rising from the end of the cigarette as he heard his phone vibrate on the vanity. Reaching out to pick it up, a smile split his face at the nickname lighting up his screen.
Throwing an eye over his shoulder toward the door, he unlocked his phone, quickly scanning the message.
“Hello Angel, would you like to come with me to buy clothes for a meeting I have? I could use your fashion expertise.”
He would be lying if he said he wasn’t a little excited at the invitation. So far him and Lucifer had only spent time together at the hotel (the amount of times they had managed to fuck in such a short amount of time was impressive, especially considering his busy schedule, yes, but he also loved their conversations way more than he expected he would when they first met), he was pretty pleased that Lucifer wanted to spend time with him out and about as well.
“Absolutely! I’ve got tomorrow off if that’s not too late.”
“Tomorrow works for me. Should I pick you up at 10? We can have something to eat after, if you’d like.”
He was grateful that Lucifer didn’t ask him to get up too early. Well, ten was still extremely early for his days off, but it was well worth it to get to spend time with Lucifer like this.
Did this count as a date? His face burned at the thought. Food and shopping sounded like a pretty nice first date, if you asked him. Terribly normal, but he found he kind of longed for that kind of stuff sometimes, silly as it made him feel every single time. Hopefully he wasn’t deluding himself.
He heard a knock at the door and quickly typed his reply, locking his phone as soon as he hit send.
“Sounds good! See ya then!”
It had been so long since he last got out of bed before noon when he had the day off, he had to literally roll out of it to get up. But once he remembered why he was out of it at 8:00 he climbed up to his feet, kissing Fat Nuggets (already begging him for breakfast as soon as the alarm went of) on the forehead and Husk (barely conscious) on the cheek before hopping into the shower.
He slowly started to wake up as he lathered himself up, making sure to wash every inch of himself. Prone to staying in the shower for hours if left to his own devices (living in a hotel run by royalty allowed him such pleasures without having to worry about running out of hot water or inflating his water bill to gigantic proportions), he did his best not to get off track so he would have plenty of time to dry himself, put on makeup and pick out an outfit.
By the time he was out of the bathroom, Husk was sitting up in bed, bleary-eyed and fur sticking out every-which way. It had no right being as attractive as Angel found it. “You’re up early, Legs.”
“I’m goin’ out with Lucifer! Gotta make sure I look adorable.”
Husk mumbled a half-asleep ‘you already do’, making Angel blush pink beneath his fur. He hadn’t brushed it after blowdrying it yet, making him fluffed up and his hair standing on end. He didn’t get the time to retort before Husk spoke, brain starting to wake up a bit more. “A date?”
“I dunno, maybe.” He pursed his lips as he picked up his brush to start to smooth down his fur. “Is it dumb if I really want it to be?”
He heard the bed creak as Husk moved, and he looked over to see him sitting on the edge of it, Nugs climbing up into his lap as Husk lazily started to pet him. The sight made his heart feel warm. “No. If you like him you like him. But if you’re not sure you should ask.”
Angel sighed. “Easier said than done.” He started to brush his body, concentrating on making it soft and smooth for a while before he continued, Husk waiting patiently. Asking something like that made him feel vulnerable, but Lucifer had never given him reason to worry before. It was just his past terrorising him. “I will.”
By the time he was done with his makeup and fully dressed it was almost ten. The cotton candy pink dress pushed his chest fluff up to an impressive degree, his regular boots traded for hot pink ones. He’d even curled his hair. He felt both hot and cute enough to woo just about anyone right now.
“Alright, mama’s gonna go downstairs now, you boys be good for me.” He leaned down to give Husk a soft kiss on the lips. He scratched Fat Nugget’s chin before heading for the door.
He’d find out if this was a date or not soon enough.
When he came downstairs he found Lucifer chatting with Charlie, who was talking about their new plans, her arms flapping excitedly as she did.
They’d found out that redemption was possible just a few days ago, and with it, that Sir Pentious was alive. Charlie had cried into Vaggie’s arms with relief at the news. Anyone could have seen that she hadn’t taken his death well, even though she did her best to manage it.
There was a lot of planning to do now, and Charlie was keeping both herself and Vaggie busy as bees, Lucifer helping wherever he was able to, trying his best not to butt heads with Alastor in the meantime.
Lucifer lit up as he spotted him, a wide smile on his face. “Angel! You look absolutely terrific! I’m so glad you agreed to come with me.”
Angel batted his eyelashes, smiling right back at him. “Thank you sugar, I could say the same thing to you.”
Charlie looked back and forth between them, looking a little confused, even as she seemed very pleased to see them getting along. “Where are you going?”
“Angel is helping me pick out clothes for next week.”
“Oh that’s a great idea! I hope you have loads of fun!”
“We will.” Lucifer leaned forward to hug Charlie, who happily returned it before waving them off. “Bye dad! Bye Angel!”
“Bye sweetie,” Lucifer and Angel waved back as they left, stepping out onto the street. They walked side by side in comfortable silence for a few moments before Lucifer spoke.
“I really appreciate you joining me today. It’s been so long since I last went shopping for… anything, really. I have no idea where anything is anymore.”
“No problem, ya couldn’t’ve asked for a better helper, I love shoppin’.” Angel grinned. He let his eyes run along Lucifer’s body, taking in the sight of him. He was in fitted black slacks, the top buttons of his white button-down unbuttoned to expose his collarbones, a dark pink vest hugging his waist. “Though you do know how ta dress cute already.”
Lucifer’s cheeks flushed a pretty golden colour at the compliment. “Ah, thank you. I do like looking presentable.”
Angel raised an eyebrow at that. “Says the man dressed like a snack.” He enjoyed the even brighter shade of gold his words brought to Lucifer’s cheeks. “Ya look way more than presentable.”
“I wanted to look nice. I haven’t been on a date in a really long time.”
His heart skipped a beat. “Date?”
Avoiding his eye, Lucifer scratched his neck. “I knew I forgot something… I meant to ask you beforehand. It doesn’t have to be if you don’t want-”
“I do!” Angel was just as stunned as Lucifer at just how quick he was to say it. “I mean, I kinda thought it was, already.”
Relief made Lucifer’s shoulders relax, and he smiled up at him, eyes crinkling in the corners. “Then it’s a date.”
Fucking hell, was he cute.
“So what kinda meetin’ are ya goin’ to where ya can’t wear one ‘a those fancy suits?
Angel looked down at Lucifer curiously. Surely he had to have plenty of expensive clothes already.
“Well… I could if I wanted to but, I’m uh, going to meet Asmodeus. He’s introducing me to his partner. I want to make a good impression, it seems to be very serious between them.”
Angel remembered when the gossip about the Sin of Lust and Fizzarolli had been proven to be true. He had only watched the performance afterwards, not particularly interested in a clown pageant, but the videos had gone beyond viral. It had been inescapable. The tantrum Valentino threw had ended with Vox getting a pretty nice crack in his screen and himself enduring one of the longest nights in his afterlife. From what he had seen in the media after that, Asmodeus and Fizzarolli seemed pretty happy together though.
“So ya need somethin’ kinda sexy then?”
“Exactly. Not uh, too sexy though, I haven’t worn anything other than my normal clothes in public in a really long time. Just. Enough to fit better into Lust.”
Angel tapped his lips with a finger for a few moments as he ran through the stores he knew in his mind. Most of the places he shopped at were mid-range at most, but Lucifer struck him more as a high-end kind of guy. His suits were always impeccably tailored and made with quality fabrics.
A twinkle caught in his eye as he grinned, remembering something. “I know the perfect place! Come on!”
They soon found themselves inside a luxury boutique, the white decor giving full focus to the clothes. He pulled Lucifer further into the store, sizing up the clothes displayed on the walls and on the mannequins.
“I wore stuff for a shoot from this place once,” he told Lucifer as they looked through the clothes being offered. “They’re the classy type’a sexy, so they’ll probably have somethin’ that’s perfect.”
He eyed a beautiful red dress for a moment. It was stunning, sparkling underneath the lights, and was definitely something he’d want to put both himself and Lucifer in if given the chance. It probably wouldn’t fit the vibe that meeting-your-friend’s-boyfriend called for, though. He hoped he’d get the chance to suggest something like it at a later date.
“If you have pictures I would love to see them,” Lucifer said with a smile. “I’m sure you looked amazing.”
“Ya bet your cute lil’ ass I did. I’ll show them to ya later.” He’d been pretty happy with the photos. It had been a very different vibe than his usual work, something he attributed to Velvette’s hands being involved. Val had way different tastes than what could be bought in here, most of the time.
His eyes moved toward the security cameras for a fraction of a second. Hopefully Vox wouldn’t see him out and tell Val about it.
Shoving that thought to the back of his mind for now, he went back to looking at the clothes. His fingers ran across the fabric of a suit jacket. “So ya got any favourite colours?”
“White and pink, but I like most colours.” He wasn’t surprised to hear as much, he’d mostly seen Lucifer wear the two aforementioned colours. The black he was wearing today was a rare treat.
Lucifer came to stand next to him as Angel picked out a white button-up shirt to look at more closely. He didn’t dare look at the price tag, only trying to imagine what it would look like on Lucifer. It had an open back, tied together at the bottom with two satin ribbons that intersected in the middle. The fabric felt buttery smooth against his fur.
“It looks good,” Lucifer hummed, feeling the fabric and seeming to find it satisfactory. “I didn’t know humans had stores this nice.”
While he had no idea what types of stores the rest of Hell had to offer, it was true that stores like this one were hard to come by in Pride. Not a lot of people aside from overlords had the money to spare to buy from stores this expensive. Not to mention the white storefront and decor stood out like a sore thumb among all the red that Pride seemed to be permanently dyed in.
“Yeah, this store’s pretty rare,” he agreed, pulling a black jacket off the wall where it was hanging. “You should try this on.” He held it out for Lucifer to take, who easily accepted it, getting a closer look.
“I’m sensing a theme here,” he said with a smile as he flipped it around to look at the exposed back.
“What can I say, you’ve got a nice back,” Angel said, sending a wink Lucifer’s way. “Ya should show it off more often.”
“You think so?” Lucifer looked thoughtful before his face split into a wide grin. “I guess I’ll have to believe you.”
The look on his face made Angel’s heart skip a beat. Something he covered up by shoving a pair of matching trousers into Lucifer’s arm, ushering him toward the changing rooms.
They ended up spending a lot of time in the store, just the two of them, as Lucifer had taken the chance to pay the shop to close it so they could shop in peace. He hadn’t thought twice about it, despite the hefty sum it would no doubt cost.
Sometimes Angel forgot Lucifer was quite literally the richest man in Hell. Either that or the second richest, after Mammon.
Angel was considering a cute pink shirt while waiting for Lucifer to change into another outfit when Lucifer slid up next to him without a sound.
“What do you think?” he asked, making Angel jump.
“Fuckin’ hell–” He turned to face him, face instantly going the same shade of pink as the shirt in his hands. “Oh.”
Lucifer was wearing a dark pink shirt, the sleeves rolled up to expose his underarms. He was wearing a pair of tight white trousers with cutouts at the hips that Angel had picked out, making Lucifer laugh at the still-kept accidental theme that had changed into being on purpose once they noticed it. He’d clearly worked some of his magic, as the thigh-high boots he was now wearing were nowhere to be found on the sales floor.
“That bad, huh?”
The grin on Lucifer’s lips was face-splitting. It was clear that he was teasing Angel, who must have had a starstruck look on his face right about now.
Angel looped around him, taking him in from every angle. Damn, those trousers made his ass look amazing. “Ya look so good I’d fuck ya right here if we wouldn’t be givin’ out a free show.”
A pleased look snuck onto Lucifer’s face. “Thank you, Angel.” He took a step closer to Angel, leaning on his cane, peering up into his eyes. “Is there anything you’d like to get?”
For a moment, Angel’s eyes drifted to the dress he’d been eyeing earlier, before focusing back on Lucifer. “This place’s kinda outta my budget.”
Lucifer gave him a warm smile. “Let me rephrase that; I’d love to buy you something, if you’d let me.”
For a moment, Angel was silent. “Ya sure?”
“Absolutely.”
Angel couldn’t believe Lucifer had really bought him the dress he’d been eyeing since they got there, just like that. He’d had plenty of offers from men wanting to become his sugar daddy, of course, but even if he’d considered saying yes at times, there was no way Valentino would let that fly. Lucifer though… if Lucifer asked, he’d probably say yes.
This definitely wasn’t like that, though. They were already fucking, there was nothing new to gain from buying him this dress. While Angel had a few self-esteem issues, he knew that Lucifer was buying him this just because he liked him. That he wanted to get him something just because he wanted to.
It made him feel giddy as they walked down the street with their shopping bags.
“Hey,” he started as he felt his stomach rumble. “Ya like tacos?”
Lucifer looked surprised at the question. “Yes, but it’s been a while since I’ve had any. I don’t know any good restaurants that serve it though.”
There was a grin on Angel’s face. “Don’t worry, I know exactly where ta go.”
-
Lucifer was stuck blinking in confusion as they stopped in front of a taco truck parked on the side of a parking lot. It made Angel grin.
“They’ve got the best tacos in all of Pride, I promise,” he said with a laugh. “I can’t buy ya a fancy dinner, but I know my way ‘round the best food you can find that doesn’t cost a literal arm and leg in this place.”
Lucifer still seemed a bit sceptical, but after a few seconds he nodded. “Alright. What do you recommend?”
“Their tacos estilo Tijuana’s are the best, for sure.”
“Then one of those, please.”
Lucifer had drawn the line at sitting by the partially blown up tables right next to the taco truck when a gunfight broke out mere meters away from them. Angel loved getting into a good gun fight, but not when he was trying to eat in the middle of a date. Some pre-dinner violence could be fun, but they’d already ordered at that point.
Which is how they ended up sitting on top of the roof of a nearby building, looking down at Pentagram City. They weren’t quite high enough for the people below to look like ants, but if Angel were to size them up next to his claws, he was pretty sure they would line right up.
He laughed as he saw a guy who had tried to stiff him of money well-earned once get knocked several feet back by a minor explosion. Feeling Lucifer’s eyes on him, he turned to look at him. “I don’t think I’ve ever been this high up and actually gotten to enjoy it before,” he said. Vee Tower was higher, sure, but he didn’t exactly go there just to look at the view. “Fantastic view.”
Lucifer blinked, one eye after the other. Cute.
“That view?”
Motioning with his head down toward the city, Lucifer raised an eyebrow. “You have got to have seen better views than that, even down here.”
Angel grinned. “I wasn’t talkin’ about down there.”
When Lucifer connected the dots, a golden flush spread across his cheeks. He seemed pleased.
The rest of their meal was spent doing more talking than eating, taking Angel way longer to finish his tacos than it would have otherwise.
He couldn’t help it that Lucifer was so easy to talk to.
By the time they made their way back into the hotel, it was a lot later than either of them had anticipated. Lucifer walked him to his room, the conversation still flowing between them even as they reached his bedroom door.
“Oh,” Lucifer cut himself off in the middle of a sentence, eyes widening. “I almost forgot. I have something for you.”
Angel raised an eyebrow. “Other than the dress?”
Lucifer nodded, and with a puff of sparkles a large bouquet of flowers appeared in his hand. Red roses. Real, beautiful red roses from the human world.
“I would have given you them earlier but I thought it might be a bit inconvenient to carry them around all day.” Lucifer explained as Angel took the flowers in his hands, lifting them to his face to smell.
Angel was stunned.
He hadn’t seen any roses since before he died. Hell was unable to grow any flowers you could find on earth, instead having their own types of plants. There were rose perfumes here too, of course, but that wasn’t even close to the same, especially the longer you went without smelling the real deal to be able to say if it was close or not.
At his elongated silence, Lucifer started to grow awkward, but before he could say anything, Angel leaned down, pressing his lips to Lucifer’s. When he pulled back, he plucked one of them from the bouquet, snapping the stem down the middle so he could slide it into the pocket of Lucifer’s vest.
“There,” he said. “Now we both have somethin’ to remember our first date by.”
The smile that accompanied Lucifer’s flushed cheeks made Angel’s heart skip a beat.
Lucifer’s fingers gently ran across the soft petals of the rose in his pocket. “I’ll look forward to the next one. If that’s not too presumptuous of me.”
Angel’s own smile was wide, warm. “Not at all.”
As they parted ways for the moment, Angel couldn’t help but look forward to their next meeting already.
